We take trees down in every season, snow or shine. But if you have a choice in the matter, some months make for a cleaner, easier, and often cheaper job — and a few situations shouldn't wait at all.
Why winter is often ideal
Late autumn through winter is our favourite window for planned removals, for a few practical reasons. Frozen ground means heavy equipment leaves far less of a mark on your lawn and beds. Deciduous trees are dormant and bare, so the crew can read the structure and rig the canopy without a wall of leaves in the way. And with gardens cut back for the year, there's simply less underneath to protect.
- Winter: firm ground, bare canopy, minimal lawn damage — ideal for big removals near gardens.
- Late summer / fall: dry access and the start of our busy removal season.
- Spring: workable, though soft, saturated ground can mean more cleanup on heavy machinery.
When season doesn't matter
All of that goes out the window for a hazardous tree. A fresh lean, a major crack over the house, or a storm-damaged limb is removed as soon as it's identified — waiting for "a better month" just gives it more chances to fail. Dead and dangerous trees don't keep a calendar, and neither does our 24/7 response.
Plan the healthy removals for winter if you can. Deal with the dangerous ones the day you spot them.
Booking ahead
Because winter is when many Waterloo Region homeowners want their big removals done, the calendar fills. If you've got a tree you know is coming down, getting on the schedule early means you pick the timing instead of the weather picking it for you.
